Allen and I teamed up on the gobblers early this morning... wound up bagging my first bird thanks to Allen's teamwork in pushing the birds my way.  Nice day to start a workday.

The NAP Gobbler Getter put a nice hole in the side without actually punching through the bird entirely.  Even so, the bugger flew over 100 yards with the arrow in him before coming to rest along a trail right near a little kitty cat that thought he was looking at Manna from Heaven.

The kids thought it was cool... good show and tell material for monday.  The wife thought it was cool... good table fare for a dinner with friends on Sat night.  I gave the feet to the dog who may regret eating them tomorrow, but today he clearly thinks I'm da' man.

Good times!

I called this morning right when you were cleaning the bird. WTG! Eric. It sounds more and more like some fun I need to pay more attention to. Damn, those feet are big or your dog is really small. :smt006

Nice!

I was Walking to the shower yesterday morning in my skivvies and saw turkeys in the yard.
Grabbed the bow and one arrow and ran outside. Misjudged distance on a steep downhill shot off the deck and the arrow flew over ole tom. The birds hardly noticed the arrow so I decided to retrieve the arrow rather than get another.  The birds became concerned about me running around mostly naked, and by the time I retrieved the arrow for another shot they had enough of my skivvies and skedaddled.

I'll spare the pictures.

Below is the message I sent a couple other bow hunters just after Eric's score as I was in a hurry to get on the road to GS4. Nice shot Eric. What a way to start another adventure...

ps I heard another NCKA'er got a bird near the "refuge" on Sunday...He will post soon....

Good Morning Fellas, Eric and I headed out to the "refuge" with a plan in mind on how best to get on the birds. Plan B was me taking a little walk and Eric hunkering in a "blind". Within minutes I hear the all too familiar swoosh of an arrow and the "hit".
Next thing I saw was three birds taking flight over head. As I watched the birds it was real obvious one was hit as it had an arrow trailing him through the air. I watched the bird sail into the canal seemingly unhurt. Following suit I crossed onto the path and slowly walked along until I could see this cat staring into the bushes about 50 yards away. I watched the cat and he gave away the turkeys location.
Eric caught up and informed me of a blood trail that started where the bird went down, more blood in the willow leaves and even more on the pompas grass all lost while in flight.
We crossed the canal to where the bird was down. The cat ran to meet us and then turned back and ran to the Toms location....good cat. It's always amazing of the tenacity of those turkeys even when they are severely wounded.
Congratulation Eric on your big beautiful long bearded tom.

Thanks for the post and pics.  Congrats on the first gobbler.  Next time save the feet to cook up with your buffalo wings.
