went out to SPD  yesterday. morning looked good weather wise despite the tv wx predictions..this was to be the consolation trip since had to scrub Monday's dino hunt due to inclement conditions. I was itching to get some water time.

had to launch at main rec since boat launch closed mon-wed.
as I am carting yak over...I hear what sounds like a dump truck rumbling in parking lot..turns out to be fish plant truck..'ok...this could be good'.

anyhow...the recently stocked trout weren't too active on top and I couldn't paint anything from FF due to my not checking the batt. terminal prior to launching..So I pressed on to bank just opposite of boat house to the rightside of Scow Canyon.

ended up picking these 3 trout via power bait fishing close to shore during my lunch break..hits were fast and furious..I would have preferred picking off trout via the troll but I was under pressure to produce fish from wife..(she threatened to buy fish from store...a blow to any man's hunter gatherer instinct)
So these guys made it to the grill, lathered with olive oil and a sprig of rosemary.. kids wolfed down the fish since they haven't had any for a while...shame on me

I did pick one trout up on the troll later on after resetting my batt terminal. I used a rainbow trout rapala and trolled very close to the shoreline since the water remains murky. My other  rod I used flashers and tried a variety of: tiger pattern spoon, panther martin spinner, and yellow spoon to no avail.

Mon-Wed there is very little lice on the water as the only other PBs are the rental boats.. water conditions were calm until the wind picked up at 2 pm.

only hitch with launching from main rec are is that the easiest access to the water is to the immediate right of the handicap fishing dock..then the bank fisherman are right there too. Last time I saw a guy even set up his lawn chair right on the concrete side walk leading up to the water's edge...so that can be a potential conflict.
when I explained this to the girl working at the concession...she seemed ambivalent to the potential conflict and merely stated that we can launch anywhere along the shoreline....she obviously  never tried to launch a kayak let alone sit in one..(she was not petite in the slightest) the rest of the shoreline is a bit steep or too far from parking.

good on you for going back to the troll......and good details on the conditions there.....it seems to stay cloudy until all rain stops......so any trolled are tough to fool.

and as for that concrete ramp?  it's a Handicap access ramp= i'm sure no one is supposed to be fishing from it.....it's not a dock.

this is a call for HandiMan!!

Nice report Dave.
I feel you when eating store bought fish.  I had catfish last night from the local asian store. :smt003
No choice since Sonny says they are nowhere to be found anywhere.
You would never see me eating Crabs from Aliottos in SF though.  I insist on catching my own :smt002

How is the water clarity??

water remains murky.

re: access to handicap dock...the lead up ramp splits off bc the dock was moved...so the concrete ramp serves as a great launch spot for a kayak cart...but you will have to deal with  fishing lines  from dock on left...and shore fisherman from the right..but its managable.
