I have been on the Gulf side of Florida fishing for reds. We fished just like bass fishing. Used spinner baits, swim baits, crank baits and live shrimp all work well. Sea trout we used a small shrimp jig. Hope you have a boat cause first you got to locate them. For the reds we were sight fishing from a flats boat. And the sea trout we fished over sand where mullets were feeding. You could see water color change where the sand would cloud up. I wish I were going Its a great experience. You could catch all types of fish when fishing the Gulf.

Get ready for good times and insanity!!

Redfish are awesome, I grew up catching them. We used live bait, stickbaits, poppers all kinds of stuff. Standard bass tackle, baitcaster with 10-14lb test most of the time. Tons of fun I am jealous!

Yeah!!!  Hope you carve out some time to check out New Orleans as well....let me know if you want any tips on nightlife/restaurants/live music...

For fishing, my family and I always have a good time with Captain Sonny from Shore Thing Charters...actually launches out of MS, but the drive is shorter from NOLA than going all the way down to Venice area...

For Offshore, have had great times catching Yellowfin, AmberJack, Dolphin, Wahoo, King Mackerel, Red Snapper etc with Paradise Outfitters...I prefer the inshore (less time spent getting out to the fishing grounds, and less expensive), but offshore is also a ton of fun!!

Here are some articles to get you excited for fishing down there!!!!

Grand Isle is also famous for its Tarpon fishing:

And, here is a little bit of video fish porn that shows why Louisiana is called the Sportsman's Paradise!!

You can catch redfish on anything but nothing is more exciting than fishing topwater plugs in shallow water. Bring a few walk-the-dog type plugs in various sizes. Spinner baits, weedless spoon and soft plastics with 1/8 - 1/4 oz jig head are also very effective.

I fished the same area out of a mother ship last summer. I'm hoping to do it again this year. Good times!
