http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/spo/1631752329.html

It comes with turbo fins, sail and paddle, tackle box and wheels.

what's a good deal for it?

I'm looking for a Revo for ocean fishing mostly, but am thinking (haven't demo'd anything) that an Outback should be fine for ocean too (tracking, speed, etc).  any thoughts?  I am torn between buying an Outback or Revolution.  Given that used Hobies don't come up on CL often, I'm seriously considering the used Outback on CL above.
My main ride right now is a T160

your thoughts appreciated.

It's a very good deal but you're not getting a steal.  The sail and turbo fins definitely increase the value.  Just as a reference, I got my 08 Outback in 09 for $1350 and it had never been used.  Granted, it didn't come with the sale or upgraded fins.  Heck, offer him $1400, and if not accepted, come back with $1450.  It should cover the price of his new sport.

As for the boat itself, stable as heck, but heavy as heck too.  It would take quite a bit to flip it and it would seem to take quite a bit to flip it back over.  Definitely not the fastest of boats but the turbo fins will help.

Don't know how well it does on the ocean, maybe you can get some advice from Danglin, Jedmo, or AlsHobieOutback.

You could always purchase it and if a deal on a Revo comes up, then sale the OB.

BTW, what's wrong with the T160 on the ocean?  Just curious?  Like the hands free option? :smt003

Want to share with you my take on Hobie Revolution. I got an 09 Revoultion. To me, it is not an ocean yak. It is not stable in waves, and it sits low to take in water in waves as well. The fins are too much alive in the ocean. The mirage drive would be a liability in launching, landing and paddling over the kelp bed. It is a good yak for lakes.

i really wish hobie would make a mirage-drive boat in the 14' class with similar proportions and hull charicteristics as the adventure. I believe the revo is 12' and the adventure is 16'.

You must be "green" to Hobie in the ocean!   I pedalled/paddled the Hobie Sport and Outback and many NCKAers here using the Revo out in the ocean all the time and they're definitely sea worthy!!!  Granted, the Outback is more stable than the Revo but on the other hand, the Revo is faster.

I believe the Revo is 13.5' in length.

Thx all for your replies and PM.  Still looking to add a Hobie to the fleet of T160 and OK Malibu... and leaning towards a Revo.  I'll keep searching and researching.  Thx again to all that replied.

Not to mention, you just pull the pedals when traveling over kelp.

problem with the outback is if you do take it to the ocean, it will be hard to paddle.

the revo is nice and stable enough that i can stand on it occasionally - a bit squirrelly but doable.  the adventure is also a good boat, but length affects its turning ability somewhat.  i would not be worried with either in the big blue.

Very good point that I forgot to mention.  Yeah, if you mechanical failure with the mirage drive on the big blue in an Outback, it's not going to be fun getting back in.  Manageable, but not fun.

Thinking back I probably have only pulled the drive unit completely out less than a handful  of times due to kelp. Most of the time I either glide over it or paddle through it with the fins flat up against the bottom and that's with the turbo fins.

John - I first came across that listing in early Feb.  So he's been trying to sell it at that price for several weeks and not getting what he's asking.

You may want to see if this guy stil has the twin to the one I bought last month.  It was an older barely used Outback for $995.

I agree with the others, the Revo has more classic kayak like lines which gets you less resistance and more speed.

The outback is 15 inches shorter and 4 1/2 inches wider.  More stable but slower.     I'm 6' tall and with a 230 cm paddle it goes ok but I would definitely not paddle far unless I had to.  Why would I?
