Build an extender for your Yakima rack, or buy it from Yakima.
Yaikma calls it the BoatLoader.  It runs for about $50.  I found a cheaper homemade way and it just might be better.

My original plan called for Ubolts to connect the existing rack with some other pole.
I  found instruction @  http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/articles_view.asp?Kayak_Articles=37
This is no good.  A closer look at the U-bolt you can see it sticks out.

Because of the protruding metal.  When I slid the kayak across the bars, the kayak
would get stuck, or rub against the U-bolt causing gashes.  Take a look what it has done
 to my kayak.

Eeeeeewwwwwwwwww.  Icky Bad!

Plan B.
I had to search a couple of Home Depots to find this galvanized bar.
The bar was already threaded which made life easier.  Added a threaded T-joint to prevent  the bar from going in too far .
A rope around the T joint  prevented the bar from sliding out while driving.

The pole is very sturdy and strong.  It slides inside snugly.
I think parts costed me around $10.
