Man it was like a lake out there!

Beautiful photos - with the snow on the mountains, blue mirrored water, and what a fish. 6 AM and 25 degrees, huh? The best things in life don't come cheap after all  :smt001.

I run an 8' 6wt fly rod with a spinning reel spooled with 6# mono, so I can see the cha-cha in my rod tip of the micro-flashers 300+ feet back and detect subtle bottom bounces.

I love this idea!  Brilliant!!

btw, how fast are you trolling up there?

SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW :smt002 Barely moving sometimes. The stroke on the side with the rod spins the blades and pulls the whole rig up to their most shallow depth, then I let them flutter back down for about a 3-5 count after the stroke on the opposite side of the rod. Making the flashers/minnows dart to and fro like a reel school of minnows is key, not just pulling them at a constant speed. Just like a marionette. Also helps to imagine your gear underwater, just coming into the zone, then bam it hits! I love thinking my gear should be just about over those rocks and look up to see the rod kick'n! Thanks again and good luck, Eric :smt001

Eric is totally right.  Anytime I work any lure or bait (for any type of fishing) I like to envision what's going on down there with my rig.  Sometimes I can almost will a fish to bite.  :smt002

Beautiful fish!
I was XC skiing that week out of Carnelian Bay area, the lake was gorgeously FAC in the mornings when we headed out to the trails. I was wishing I had brought my kayak!
