This will be a brief report because I was only on the water for about 1/2 hour before getting called into work.  In any case, took my son out on Sunday afternoon and headed out to the south east corner.  Got two hook-ups on the way out.  Lost the first one as I immediately stopped paddling upon getting the hit.  I am new to yak fishing, so I made the rookie move of stopping my paddling.  I remember reading something about this on the site, but forgot to follow through in the excitement.  I learned my lesson on the second hook up and continued to paddle.  This definitely set the hook and allowed me to hand the rod over to my son after he came crashing into my yak with his frenzy.  He got it all the way up to my yak before it got off.  The trout jumped out of the water just before this and we were able to see that it was a fairly good sized fish.  I was using a silver kastmaster.  We have been out on our yaks about 4 times since purchasing them in Decemeber and are loving every minute!   :smt001

That's not bad for 1/2 hr on the water.  It's addicting.

Fished that lake for five hours and came home empty handed last year. Two hookups in half an
hour is great. Thanks for the report Yakdad and son. Looking forward to fishing with you someday.

Thanks for the report! Too bad about getting called in... How old is your son and what yak do you boys paddle?

Thanks for all the replies!  I'm just figuring out how to use the forum so I figured I'd just go for it and learn as I go.  I have a prowler trident 11 angler and my son (7) has a frenzy.  The frenzy is perfect for him (safe, easy to maneuver, and tracks very well).  I'm getting ready to put a rod holder on his yak, but wanted to get him out a few times before deciding where to place it.  Looking forward to meeting you guys out on the water and appreciate all your tips on the site!
