I think I know the pole, line and bait to use but what kind and size of hook should I put on it?

I use 4/0 - 6/0 circle hooks for these.

I use regular hook and line method. Basically just a Carolina rig with low profile weights (1/2oz) and size 1 hooks.

I fish the jetty for 'em, so I just drop down into all the different holes and crevices...mostly above the waterline....right under your feet.

I use regular hooks before but many time they gut hooked so I switched to circle hooks.

Thanks for the tips guys. I went out yesterday. I was going to try Fort Ross as I thought it would be a little more protected from the weather, but as you guys probably know (I didn't) the state of CA closed the ocean yesterday. Fort Ross, Reef Campground, Fisk Mill Cove all had the gates up. I ended up going down just north of the Fisk mill cove entrance out by the Fisk Obelisk thing that I didn't know existed. I didn't get anything and if nothing else I guess I got to enjoy the good weather.

I use large live bait hooks, maybe 1/0-3/0 because they are very sturdy. Eels tend to wrap themselves up tightly in crevices and I have broken many thinner hooks because of this.
