Went out Saturday with a guy from Facebook (Wasen Ventura) that is an experienced spearo from Hawaii but has not been in the water that much out here and has never shot a Ling.

My goal was to fix that, and hopefully find a few decent fish to shoot myself to stoke out my buddy Manuel Madrigal who just got back from 3 weeks on a strike team fighting fire up North.

Ocean was flat calm but there was a very strong south to north current that made it hard for me to drop my marker weight right on the first spot we were trying to get to, and made "resting" on the surface hard cuz had to kick to stay in place...

Anyway, eventually found and marked the crack I was looking for and lo and behold there was a solid Ling in the far corner.  :smt003

Explained to Wasen where the fish was and after a few drops he saw it and popped it right in the eye.  :smt004

I went down and made sure the shot was solid, and then watched Wasen pull out his spear and look around for the fish and finally realize it was all the way up the shooting line.  :smt005

Beautiful 31+ inch bright blue fish with a fat belly that turned out to be a whole perch!! What a piggy!!  :smt007

My next two marks were empty, found a nice sheep that I missed cuz I suck, and had a seal steal all my rockies and eat half of a Ling that I had hanging off my kayak!! :smt013 :smt011

Went into blast mode after I discovered the seal theft and shot two more olives and two blues and then it was time to head in.

Probably one of the least productive days for me in awhile and frustrating to miss an easy shot at the sheep and have a seal steal what I did shoot, but was still stoked to get out in the water and pop Wasen's Ling cherry, and bring home enough meat for some tacos for Manuel!!

Here's a few pics and a mini vid.

Sincerely,

Jim

The smile on Wasen's face  :smt003 says it all. The music....feeling a lil nostalgic?  :smt002.

Congrats on the first Ling Wasen.  Thanks for the report, pictures, and video Jim.
