Any big downside (besides paying now, not later?)

If they close your favorite fishing areas how will you feel?  Sorry, I get grumpy as I look to the future........... :smt011

Seabreeze are you hijacking my post? _and_ being a whiner to boot?  :smt002

I thought the latest news was it was looking a little better for the fishermen
and worse for the fish?

Well, if they close them, they'll probably re-open them to those that
pay enough. money talks. There will be $5000 fishing licenses.  Play golf for $300
a round and then snag a ling. But of course, lifetime fishing license holders will be cool.

I'm just over 40  :smt012 and my kids are under 9  :smt006, so the lifetime license looks like a good deal,
not to mention something cool to have,  assuming it's not tempting karma too much and we don't all get eaten before our time.

A good p$actical look at the matter.......... :smt002

I've never seen a lifetime license.   I guess you laminate it and keep track of it?

I've never seen one either, they must issue you a new one each year.
I know you still have to buy all the stamps so you would need room for them.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

you can get all the stamps for lifetime too.

two rod, bay-delta, salmon punch, steelhead report + one other thing.

knowing the government you probably have to wait in line somewhere each
year (for 5 times longer than it takes to buy one at a tackle shop). something
like this would be my main reason not to do it.

you can also get a lifetime hunting license, one deer, five pigs per year for
the rest of your life.

Cool.  Thanks for the links.  It would be a really nice thing to do for your kids.

Jmairey,
I bought mine when they were $495.  You get a new one in the mail each year and its pre printed.

Just a few years ago, the price was going up, so I conned the "savage" into to buying one too.  It hurt to initiallyy buy it, but now I'm glad I did.

i have one, they mail it to you every year. get the deluxe model with all the stamps because the price of a licsense goes up slowly, but the dfg will probably think of more stamps at $5 a pop. in addition, when i got caught without my licsense once i explained that i was a lifetime holder, and they let me off the hook. the dfg guys quizzed me for a while until i finally pointed to my kayak, fish finder and all and said"look, do you think i would go to this much trouble to catch a fish, and NOT buy a licsense?". they seemed satified at that point.
