Hi All,

I'm in the market for a new vhf (I know, there's tons of treads on this subject already).  Was wondering if anyone had any experience with a Uniden MHS75?  The review seems ok for a radio that's sub $100.  It has a three year warranty and it's a JIS8 Submersible rating.

Any thoughts?

oh yeah, I found this review...

I had bad experience with my Uniden VHF radio and would not trust my life with it!  My next one will be this one and only cost a little more:

Hey Sailfish,

What radio is that?  I tried the link and it's saying the product could not be found.

Thanks

It's the Standard Horizon HX750S.  I think they just increased the price from $127 to $149 but check the web for better deals!

They are on sale (Standard Horizon 750) at West Marine for $99 normally $150.  I went to pick one up yesterday at their San Carlos store but were sold out.  The sales gal there, Darryll special ordered one for me, suppose to be in 5 working days.  She is very helpful and attentive every time I go there.

I am very happy with the Standard radio products, I have a Standard HX255 that's at least 14 years old.  It still works fine except the battery finally died on me.  But with that many years of use, it served me well. :smt001

How long have you had it?

About a year. I've dunked it in the ocean, left it on for a couple days and completely drained the batteries, dropped it, etc ... I wouldn't say I've abused it, but I haven't been all that careful either. Came with two batteries, but I've never come close to needing a second, a charge just seems to last forever. If I remember correctly it was reviews on Amazon that convinced to get this model.

UPDATE!  I stopped by West Marine here in Concord/Pleasant Hill and found out the 750 is a clearance item and it's being replaced by the 751 (only difference is a glow in the dark seal.  Was informed by their store manager).

FishFarmer got the last new unit on order(you lucky dog)!  Oakland, San Carlos, Point Richmond, and Alameda have their display unit only (I'm picking up the display unit in the Alameda location tomorrow and it's on hold).
