No wind and good tides seemed like it was going to make for a great day but no action, heard the bite is lite lately so lots of swinging, but mostly bait stealing crabs, they really like the ghost shrimp! We tried everything, grass, ghost, mud, clams, eel, salmon, pile worms, nothing. About a dozen pb's out there as well, we fished shallow <10 and the deeper 20 - 30 feet zones, markedsome fish in the deeper water and heard one fish bouncing around a metal boat, so maybe someone got lucky.

launch was not too bad, we hit the outgo early enough to only turtle 30 or 40 yards, it can be much worse on the big tides, and then we came in early enough to still have plenty of high water to reach the bank, no turtle. You have to watch out a little, the mud can be deep in spots and really wear you down postholing, so go as light as you can. A couple of us were not holding anchor well so we came into the 20' I think if we could have stayed out in the 30' zone we'd had more play but...

I think a 100' rope and 10lbs anchor should hold the yak in 30' of water.

I went to the Martinez Pier, and two guys in blue yaks heading out, I had to run to the truck to get more tackle, I assumed then headed to the fleet.  I am going to try on Friday, just op from the pier, saw several power boats out there anchored up, and will be my first run after my surgery.  Feel good, might only fish a couple hours, but I need to get back out there.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

I'm looking to try that area Saturday afternoon.  can you recommend some launching areas?  Please provide details, as I've never fished that area before.  Thank you.

WTGiveItAGo!   i've shorefished from there and thought about the same.
the current flows like a freight train in the channel, so i didn't think an avg. anchor would hold.

i know that a couple of seasoned NCKA'rs tried that one a big tide and never attempted it again.
the flow can get VERY FAST, VERY QUICKLY if you're anywhere near deepwater.
BE CAREFUL and do not try it(IMHO) on a flush tide. :smt009

we had 50' and 10 .lbs and wasn't enough for the weaker outgo so that's why we stayed shallow. I think adding 3-4' of chain is also a good bet.

Yeah, you don't want to be too close to those pilings hit one of those and get pulled under and your done!

Directions:

From 680 North or South, take the Lake Herman Rd Exit. On west side of 680 head toward gas station (chevron?) take E. 2nd street south, turn left onto Park Road ~.2 mi, (Park parallels 680). Turn left on Bayshore Rd.  Follow Bayshore about a 1/2 mi until you just about under 680 bridge. You'll see a Puble Access sign. you can park in the small lot opposite the security guard station (nice feature of this spot). You can drive the dirt/gravel road along the fence to get a little closer to the launch to unload, bit you can't park there.

you can use the streetviewer to see actual location and launch area. follow bayshore under bridge.

i have a poster of the area in my garage....on the left/to the west is the openning to SanPabloBay, to the east/right is the beggining of the Delta.
Tidal flow is very strong where the land funnels the water, into the narrow points along the Carquinez Strait. If there is any fog in the east valley, and there is a hint of EAST WINDS, the area will blow hard(out towards the bay) so if your already in battle with the current and the wind is blowing, it's gonna be hard to do anything other than get to seek the safety of shore(or fish the shallower flats)
I am not an expert in this area, but i have done alot of knuckledraggin-shore fishing there.
Pick your tides right if you try it, and be sure to get Sonys'/Sailfish phone number............youMAYendUPinVALLEJO  :smt009
