Low Budget Rod/Gaff/Net Holder for OK Yaks

I got a sweet deal on a used P13 so I don't have to use my Hobie for crunch landing areas. I wanted a stripped down utility fishing yak I could beat the crap out of. I needed two exrta rod holders for the back and came up with these. They are very durable and work like a charm. I started with a small piece of 1 1/2 inch schedule 20 PVC pipe. I drilled 3/4 inch holes in it to accomodate the tip of my rivet gun and smaller 1/8 inch holes for the aircraft rivets I used to attach the holders..



I installed the holders just behind the tackle box holders in the tankwell.



Drilled the rivet holes.



I used high quality aircraft rivets and Goop to attach the holders.





The finished holder install is surprisingly clean and strong.  I wouldn't use these for trolling but they are great for transporting rods and holding gaffs and nets.

Thats a nice utilitarian mod no big holes to cut! . It would adapt well to holding crab traps also.

Thanks for bringing the idea up for 2010 Kayote, I think I'll use it on my Tarpon this off season!

Love it. One thing to note is if you plan on using it for a net (or have a longer gaff) make sure you have the holder on the non casting side. I have snagged many a lure (on my back cast) next when its on the right side.

Nice job on the fab Kayote. Eric, good point. I lost one eye of one of my favorite
rod because my net was kept on my casting side.
