in the past i have really enjoyed your posts but now i have been moved to the older post section. i wish you would review the purpose of that decision. the reason why i love to read your post is that I'm from northern California ( mt.Shasta ) but currently stuck in Atlanta. i will be moving to crescent city in about 8 months and then i will get my craft and be able to add to your web site but until then i can only watch.

Your 10 posts will need to be somewhat meaningful, not just 10 one word posts to get to 10 total,

with that said, a simple "Way To Go" response to someones fishing report is sometimes meaningful enough as long as you don't just do 10 of those, also just a good question or request for info is good too.

When the rule first came out a few peeps tried to just do the 10 one word posts in rapid succession, they were either warned or banned for it.

Sounds like you won't have any problem at all,,,

Take a day and go shore fishing in Atlanta and gives us a report on that, I love all fishing reports.......

Dude, I lived in Peachtree Garden Apts for 4 years, I was an Ironworker on Buckhead 1 and 2, the 56 floor IBM Atlanta, Perimiter Plaza, and Used to fish and raft the 'hoochie, Allatoona, any lake I could find. Post some Atlanta reports, we would love it!!! PS Silver lake up by Oglethorp has MONSTER stipers that hardly ever get fished, and Allatoona has Alligator Gar that are big Sturgeon sized. Sorry for the semi-thread-jack but I loved Atlanta and just got a little fired up in a good way.

i have fished many lakes in the area with Friends and the bass fishing here is the best. i live close to allatoona. when i first mover here they use to call it the dead lake but that has definitely changed. in the summer on allmost any night you can find a bass tourney. since i am planning on moving this spring or summer when i can sell my house i have been selling allmost everything. with only a pickup and three thousand miles to go and a wife there is not a lot of room to bring the extras. people do bank fish here but i have not had that much luck with it . i have been in Atlanta for about 20 years and its just time for a change.

I vacationed up in Crescent City this year with my wife. That is a really cool town. Some great surfing beaches. You are making a good move going there as long as the MLPA doesn't wipe out all the kayakfishing launches in the vicinity. jim

MLPA=Marine Life Protection Act. If you go to Cal DFG, California Fish & Game website, you can read more about it there. The process, we like to call it 'processing' because so far fishermen are getting screwed big time, in the North Coast including Crescent City is underway now while other regions including central cal have been completed. DaveW is our NCKA kayakfishing & diving representative for this area with help from a few other guys. This has to do with the creation of large ocean no take-no fishing & diving zones throughout California and has been going on for ten years. There's a lot to read on this subject and it's all pretty painful.....to say the least.....but if you're moving to Crescent City in 7 months, and you kayakfish, then you need to know what's up. jim

my faint understanding about the mpla is that they want to set aside areas of the ocean that are completely protected. one area that i have heard about stretches from an area north of crescent city to slightly past the Oregon border. my info could be incorrect so i will do some reading about the proposed area and get back to that . i could be wrong and maybe some of these areas are necessary but how big and for how long is another story. i like to fish as much as the next person and do not want to be limited but i also want their to be fish. i will be going to crescent city in the next couple of weeks for a visit so maybe i can talk to a few of the locals and get a better understanding on how they feel. thanks for all the replies and helping me work Thu this process of being able to read all the posts and becoming a little more knowable of what we all consider important .

The MLPA thing is very complicated, but also really very simple.  It will close to all forms of take about 20% of the coast in any given area, the rub comes as the opposing forces try and decide which 20%.

If you're going to talk to people in Crescent City, be aware that many people are vehemently opposed to it, and while your vision of some sort of conservation areas may be valid, just talking about it can get really heated.

As far as protecting fish off the California Coast, rest assured that they already have sufficient protections and populations are recovering more rapidly than expected.  The rockfish/lingcod/greenling regulations already restrict depth to no more than 120 ft in most areas, (most rockfish and lings live deeper than that), and the seasons have been significantly shortened to periods as short as 90d/yr in some areas.  I didn't mention salmon because it is a separate issue and actually has little effect on the MLPA wrangling.

These measures are working well and the MLPA is NOT needed to protect fish, however the law is here and it will happen, so there are lots of hard feelings in the fishing communities,

This is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak on the MLPA story
