Over 1,200 miles rt, 2 hrs of fishing, 1 10" Mackeral!  Well, that's a family trip for ya!  I was just happy to scout out the area and get on the water for a few hours.  Launched from the boat ramp area around 7am at La Jolla Shores, where the day before I saw a small halibut jump and completely clear the water less than 10' from shore - too bad it's an Ecological Preserve/no fishing area.  There were at least 5 PB's and 10+ yaks working the area, apparantly targeting Yellowtail.  There had been a decent YT bite a few weeks ago.  Jigged a big chrome and landed the Mackeral, then sent him back down but no action on that.  Sea's were 6-8' every 16 seconds, and an offshore breeze started to kick in so I called it about 9.  Would LOVE to get down there in the summer and work it.

We stayed at La Valencia in La Jolla Village, with a view of the fishing grounds from our room (pic #1 & 2).  My wife works for the company that manages it so we got comped - nice!  OTW -  pic #3.  Surfers were LOVING the break along the cliffs, pic #4.  Also went to Legoland - pic #5 (kids are 9 & 13 and just about over that - oh, well.)  Dog loved Del Mar Beach - pic #6, and we hit a bunch of Mission's on the way home for my daughter's 4th grade Mission project - pic #7.

More fishing next time for sure!

Thats the place I was introduced to kayak fishing. I have a friend down there that does real well on the WSB and YT when the bite is on. All I ever caught so far were monster mackerels, calamari, and a big prawn. Makes me want to move down there almost though!
