Got out for a short paddle this AM at my local pond (94549). I was trying out my wife's SIK with a new rod holder deck up front. "No holes in the boat" she said (sigh). So I put together a little deck to strap onto the foredeck, with rubber feet to protect the shiny boat. Classic 1" PVC lifts the rods out of paddle trajectory (with careful paddling).

I started at about 10am, trolling a couple of lures at a nice easy paddle, which is pretty fast in her lightweight boat (2-3mph - forgot my GPS @ home). Well, I guess my rod holder design was sturdy enough, 'cause after an hour or so the starboard rod started shakin' like a twig in a stiff breeze. After a few minutes of tussle, and fumbling with my net (the big one!), I had this real nice 21", 5 lb trout-like fish in the boat!

They just stocked the lake on Tuesday, so this fish may have just arrived. He came home with me today.

That SIK is a bit cramped for me, and I broke the seat adjustment fitting, eliminating any back support. I also managed to get my port-side lure tangled in the rudder, which I forgot to unlatch before starting, plus my other lure was munched by the big fish. So I called it quits with only the one fish  :smt003. The same lure caught my even bigger fish here last spring. Maybe I oughta keep using that one, eh?

Here are some photos.

SWEEET!!! I hate that place because they don't allow dogs on boats and I have never caught a fish there.  :smt013

It's strange they don't allow dogs on boats... there were a couple thousand dogs on the trail around the lake. And yes, this lake can definitely deal the skunks, especially since DFG stopped stocking.

You do so well in that lake Andy. You'll have to show me how to fish there sometime. I too can't seem to catch anything there. :smt003 Anyhow, very nice
fish. Love the PVC setup.

Nice fish and I love the way you made your own rod holders.

Great catch, man are you gonna get it for the broken seat adjustment,

Hey, I got a 5" LMB there once,

but of more interest is the SIK, details, I have a GF I'd like to get out of her 9ft SOT and into something easier to paddle.

That lake does turn out some hog rainbows, I saw a 10# 8 oz at the office one day. It was ugly,

I like the setup on the yak!  Thanks for the report and pictures Andy.
