Went out again today with 3 friends to check the string. We left Ballena Bay (Alameda) around 0730 in the morning heading out the gate. As we rolled underneath the Bay Bridge, I got a call from one of my buddy and he said that he is out cruising in the bay with his 2 fishing buddies and want to see if they can pull some of my pots for some crabs. So they joined us outside the gate. We pulled the 1st pots and there was only 1 lonely undersize dungie inside so out he went, rebaited and tossed back. The next 2 pots which is #2 and #3 yielded 4 limits. I have those other 3 guys worked the end of the string and they only pulled 2 pots for 3 limits. The weather was beautiful out there. We pulled into Alameda around 12:30 and I saw a kayak just outside of Crown beach and he looks like he's fishing. Here are some pics of today's harvest.

Great catch.  You must be getting tired of eating crabs by now.  What type of traps are you using for that area?

You can't never get tired of eating those creatures if you prepared them in different ways every time you harvest. I am using the square danielson and used about 25 lbs weight to weigh them down. I set them in 120' to 150' of h2o.

Fred,
Thanks for the trap info.  Always wonder how much weight I would need for the trap I'm using and the depth it's going into.  I guess if you can handle the weight it probably better to have more weight than what is needed to keep your trap from drifting.

Kwonsoo - we used tuna head and guts. During the albacore season, we saved all the heads and guts when we cleaned them and they are good for crab bait because they're very oily.

Ernie - Just let me know when is the best week or day for you to come out.
