Just remember you're OLD as hell, and falling of a board hurts now.
...and hurts the day after, and the day after that, and the day.....  I miss the days of bouncing right back up  :smt010
Tell me about it. One good slam and I'm out for a week. When did I get so old??

Hey Pacifico you need to go to Ohana in San Jose, http://www.ohanaboardshop.com/ great guy, has kids and really knows his stuff. He will hook you up.

I would look for a pretty skinny board like 7.5 inches wide. Trucks I was always partial to Ventures for street (nothing beats Indys for transition though) then some wheels and bearings and you will be set. They will put it together for you at the shop.

Don't forget the helmet at least, wrist guards are good as well. Then he can go skate with me and my son!

So after quick visit to Ohana and dropping $175 I have paid my debt to Omar.  The board was a reward for how well he's been doing and has always done in school...that boy, I tell you if it wasn't for his moms genes dragging him down...  :smt003

He ended up with a Flip board, Ace Trucks, Bones Red Bearings, and some 58MM Bones Slim Victory wheels.  He was "stoked" (not a typical word in my vocab) that he picked out each of the pieces that made up his board.

We were a bit sick (not the good sick) today but later in the evening we went out and took it for a spin...judging by the "that's sick" and the "that's hella real" comments he was getting from his 7 year old buddies I'm assuming he has a nice board.

Being the youngster that he is he started talking about how I couldn't ride with him...I had to show him that dad might be a bit old, fat, and slow but he knows a thing or two about a thing or two.  It was actually a bit fun. It's not likely I'll ever drop into the bowl but who knows maybe I will buy myself a board afterall.

Apparently, while I can do a "manual" (that's what he called it) I can't do a "Proper Manual"... damn! I hate being challenged like that.

Good stuff Angel.  I don't know the first things about skateboarding but do look forward to hearing more about the father & son duo.

So Friday night Omar and I went out for dinner...we only live a couple of blocks from Castro in Mountain View so we decided to walk there rather than drive.  Omar took his board with him.

On the way back he was explaining what an Ollie is to me and said he couldn't do one yet.  So me being me I decided to go ahead and try it out.  After a couple of tries (about 2 dozen) I was able to get what I considered to be a "baby ollie" (Omar says it wasn't even close to being an ollie)...during the immediate second after I "stuck" it I was giving myself my mental pat on the back when I lost concentration and hit a rock or something.  I kept going forward and the board decided it was going to go backward. I rolled once, bounced once, and then ended up flat on my back.  I layed there for a second reliving the moment and Omar ran over to me worried that I hadn't gotten up yet.  After a second I get up and he's relieved to see that the only injury I had sustained was a bruised ego...good thing we were in some dark parking lot, but of course it all probably ended up on a security camera and will eventually be posted on youtube.

I started laughing and dusting myself off but he still looked a bit worried...so I asked him if he heard anything crack or if  he seen any blood. He answered "No" to both....so I told him that a real friend laughs if he doesn't see either of those two things.  He got quite for a few seconds and then finally admitted "I did giggle though".    :smt003

After that we walked back home and as I was going to unlock the door I realized I lost my keys.  Omar got nervous about that (he figured we'd end up homeless or something and started thinking about where we could find carboard boxes) so I calmed him down a bit and we started our walk back to the scene of the accident.  Sure enough they had flown out of my pocket a few feet from where I landed...we picked them up and headed back.

About halfway back Omar, still a bit upset, prohibited me from using his board again.   :smt013

My skating career has apparently been cut short but the rise to glory was one I'll never forget.  :smt010

Good story Pacifico.  I was really suprized to see how many skaters we have on this forum.

Recently I did an Ollie impossible and a three sixty kick flip on my friends board after playing baskettball at the park.  I was shocked because I haven't skated in so long.  I guess the 30 plus pounds I've lost and the jumping while playing basketball have really helped.  My three best friends and I skated everyday from 11 till our early twenties.  I've tried in the past and couldn't even balance enough to Ollie up a curb.  Both my friends ride really well still.  I used to do Ollie impossible tail grabs down a set of five stairs.  My new goal is to land that at least once in this year on video tape.  I'll post some videos when I start slamming.
