Was thinking of heading north for Abs and fish tomorrow, wondering what the conditions are. What is the best site to use for checking the conditions in the Ft. Ross or Ocean Cove area?

thanks!

My favorite is stormsurf.com.  Look at the individual bouy forecasts, and the the model for the area.

Tomorrow looks to start mellow and turn potentially hairball - beware!

Here are some good forecast sites too:

http://www.garlic.com/~triblet/swell/abglance.html  (anything with "abglance" in its name is cool!)

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/eka/marine/  (the basics - NWS / NOAA)

http://www.stormsurfing.com/cgi/display.cgi?a=mendo  (variation on Dale's suggestion)

http://saltpointoceanconditions.com/ is the standard, and my favorite as it's updated by a real person on the coast, not some funky model.

In terms of buoy/model forecasts, the stormsurf ones are my favorite.  I like these graphical buoy forecasts for simplicity.  You can click on individual buoys from this link:

Well it looks like a pretty good day tomorrow per the salt point site. I may head up there to Fort Ross or Ocean Cove. Anyone else diving tomorrow?

I was just there [ ie Sonoma] and it was great!!!
Visability was 12-15 and the water was calm.
The forecasts scared some away from the coolest day OTW in a while.
Tomorrow will be very good....
The fog rolled in this evening over a calm sea.
I want to be ab diving again very soon....

I went to ocean cove today. Sun was out, fog cleared, it was flat with at least 10 feet of viz. High tide at 9:30 had all the kelp stretched out so easy kick out there. Was going to be a great day! Unfortunately on only my third dive for a big ab I somehow managed to blow out my left eardrum equalizing. Definitely hurt, trying to equalize on the surface had air coming out of my ear which was both novel and distressing. So that ended my day and visions of big abs and a stringer of fish. Hurt like hell the 3 hour drive home. Talked to my doctor who said that it could just heal naturally. He prescribed some ear drops and something for the pain which thankfully has subsided w/o anything but advil.

Anyone else burst an eardrum? How long a recoverey am I looking at?

The guys already covered these, but this is what I use:

For current data:
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=46013

For swell forecast:
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/eka/marine/

For Visibility:
http://saltpointoceanconditions.com/

the 3rd link is really nice for divers, but they usually underestimate the vis and they often don't have enough staff to update the report daily.  On the top of the parks page in bold is todays time and date.  The next line down is the day of the report.  Most of ab season it is the same day, but sometimes the report is a few days old.  During ab closure the report can be really old.

Man from what I see for this weekend will be 30+ foot swells. I guess anyone going diving this weekend will need a surf board. Know where I can find one since it is my 22nd annual ab fest. I guess a protected cove will be my only option but you never know it could be wrong. :smt009

Busted my ear drum 25 years ago  , healed fairly quick but I cannot dive down more than 10-12 feet , although that is deep enough in most spots . Good Luck with your ear .
