I fish this lake up near Susanville every October and I just love this place. Arrived Thursday afternoon and fished the main marina. A lot less bait fish than last year and I was sure this trip was going to suck. But I was wrong. Friday up at 6am drove 20min out to the launch to discover fog was thick. My father in law thought he was the man and gunned it into the fog. Within 30 seconds we were lost and would remain that way for an hour untill we found some land marks. I would have freaked out but we were in a lake and you can always find shore. Got to the spot and caught and released my limit for the whole trip (4 fish) within an hour. Next day not so hot but I did end up leaving the trip with 4 healthy Eagle Lake Trout all over 18". I didn't yak because the wind at this lake this time of year gets crazy.

I grew up there, still have a place there.  You are reminding me that I need to make my fall pilgrimage.

Has the lake has turned over?

The fish are moving into the shallows fallowing the bait fish. The majority have fish in the tummy but suprisingly there were also ALOT of leaches as well. The lake level was as low as I have ever seen mabye that has something to do with it. I mean big giant leaches like from stand by me. And another pic.

Awesome looking fish bro. Love the sharp points on the tail of the fish. I'm sure
they put up a fight much stronger than the trout we catch here in the Bay Area
lakes and reservoir.

Nice report.  Have you ever had a leech on your leg.  I used to get them when I lived in the Adirondacks on my local lake.  Gross.
