hmmm? is that to line the sliding tray? I assume it has one of those as well? I added some non slip matting to the bottom of the tray so stuff doesn't slide around. Also make sure you add a rivet to the front rim of the cut out area then you can drill a hole so the tray doesn't slide down all the time. I can send you a pic if it doesn't make sense.

Pic please! Thx. Man this tool is perfect. Almost like it was designed for the rod pod.

OK here ya go. I used a alum. rivet with two washers to give it some height. But any rivet will do. It really is nice to be able to lock in the tray so it doesn't slide back at 'ya every time you open the rod pod. Not sure who I stole this from but it wasn't my great idea.

Nice rigging job, Sean.  I just picked up my new Trident 15 on Friday and am getting a wealth of info. on how to rig it from you guys.  After seeing this post, I'm thinking of installing the two Scotty compact rod holder mounts as you did.  I often bounce ball for halibut in water up to ninety feet, trolling a two pound ball and a flasher which puts a whole lot of torgue on the rod holder.  The rod should be pretty verticle otherwise the kayak will pull heavily to the line side.  I had a Scotty surface mount with a good backing plate on my old Scupper Pro that took the abuse and worked great.  I have a couple of questions.  One, will those holder mounts stand up to the torque I will be giving them?  Two, did you use a backing plate of some type?  (I saw someone else's aluminum plate somewhere else on this site.)  Three, what is the pop rivet I see between the two mounts for?

Thanks for all of the excellent information!

Nope but a Scotty will.

Not necessary in that part of the hull, it is very rigid.

I hold a clip for keeping the power cord fastened to the bottom of the deck on its way to the battery tray.

Thanks for all of the excellent information!

Its my destiny.

Thanks again!  I just bought the compact Scotty rod holder mounts and a hole saw today.  I'll be cutting holes in my nice new kayak shortly.  YIKES!!!!!!  I know, I know, measure eight or ten times, cut once.
