launched the yak outta mcavoys harbor today to try out my new lil quick realse anchor system and figured i might as well soak some bait while im at it.

paddled out to the stomping grounds but didnt mark any sturgeon , anchored up in 28' and finished the last of the outgo tide and as it came to a halt the striper bite lit up , caught 2 stripers about 24/25 inches long , tossed up back and waited , waited , waited some more and nothing , seen a nice jumper in the deeper area but no pumps for me ,tried the quick realese anchor and found that i still need to tweaka few things for it to work correctly

as i paddled through the marina all the old timer knuckhead delta rat type harbor guys were tripping off my yak , they didnt know that u could hook fishfinders , rod holders n all that good stuff to um and when i told um i take it to the ocean they looked at me like i was crazy! wait till they see me land a sturgeon on that bad boy!

Sounds like a great scouting trip, the day you come paddling in with  the sturgey tail sticking out the back, then you'll see respect in their eyes, BTDT.

thanks for the report.

Hey BnB, that 24" striper was a nice treat while testing your new anchor setup.
BTW, Tote has a nice anchor setup he shared with us a while back. I'm not sure if
you had a chance to look at it yet. My setup is actually very similar to his.
Goodluck!

Good job baitNbeer! I usually head out of the Pittsburg launch and head around Brown's Island fishing for stripers. I did well last year around this time fishing directly out of the launch towards the island fishing in the flats during sunrise. The stripers were boiling all over the place. I would like to try sturgeon fishing this year from the yak.

Nice to hear that somebody got out today, and that you hooked some nice stripers!  Sorry no dinos took the offering, but we aren't far off for that!   Always nice to hear of a new launch spot too!  Would love to have a safe place to lauch for the moth ball fleet, all I have found is Benicia, and have hit some stiff winds coming back at sunset a few times!  Great report, thanks for sharing it!

the day use fee is $5, and the boat launch is $7.  I'm not sure if that means kayak or not, but I play it on the safe side.

Thanks for the scouting report Andy.   The Striper fishing there should picking-up any time now.
