Sorry to hear about the diagnosis. We lost an extended family member recently to cancer of another kind, but more positively, I am acquainted with several guys who have PC and have been treated succesfully - I just wanted to say that if your area has a cancer resource center facilty, you may wish to tap into their services - they can be very helpful in many ways, are great advocates and know the ropes. They can take care of details that allow you to focus on your family, your father. Hoping for the best, praying for healing.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Mine went through it a few years ago and was lucky to get it all removed with surgery and therapy . My grandfather it came back on him 3 times but the martinis kept him going until he slipped in the tub at 91. Pray things get better for your dad.

Don't give up hope--98% of us men will get it if we live long enough and fortunately, for most of us, modern treatments keep it at bay well past our lifespan anyway. My father, at 85, has had it for 5 years now and is doing fine--still walks five miles a day on the beach. He'll out live it and odds are so will your father.

Give him support and attention--remind of him of the joys of his life and the times to come. Challenge him on things--seek his advice--show him just how important he is to all of you and he'll fight to be there for you all. Don't make him feel weak and cared for. Positive emotions and the anticipation of more of life's joy with our family makes us stronger. It will help him as much as treatment and drugs can. well, that's what worked for me anyway.

Good luck brother--we may disagree on politics here and there, but we are still fellow veterans as well as brothers in the NCKA. And frankly, that is more important to me.

He is still a pain in my ass 13 years later.

Kinda hoping this will be the case.

Thank for everything guys, I might be making a lot of trips to elko Nevada so fishing might suffer, but I dont mind.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

Very sorry to hear the news. Try to stay positive and support him however you can. I know multiple cancer survivors who supposedly shouldn't have made it through and are still alive and happy to this day. Don't give up. Your family is in my prayers.

Sorry to hear about your dad and I hope he recovers to fish with you for many more years!   Best advice I can give is just to be there for him.   That doesnt sound like a lot, but I'm going through the same thing with my mom right now.  She had an agressive brain tumor removed a few months ago and is still in recovery mode from all of chemo and radiation treatments.   Basically its one day at a time, but I know for sure that just the family being around.. visiting or even just a phone call every day is a big thing for her.

Best wishes to you and your family!

Rich,

We'll keep your family in our prayers.

As a reminder to all my NCKA brethren who are in their 40's, if you haven't done so, get your PSA test done and yes the infamous digital exam...

At 50, get the colonoscopy done as well. I did it 3 years ago, and don't have to do it again for 10 years.

Stay strong and positive my friend. My friend Bob, who owns this company had the surgery last January to remove the prostate, he's back firing on all cylinders with no long term negative effects. Choosing the right surgeon and asking the right questions are extremely important. The internet can teach you and your Dad all about the various surgical options and post surgery treatments.

Because of family history started at 37 and have to do it every 5 sucks but better safe than sorry. Don't take a chance if you have family history make sure your Dr. knows.
