Thanks Abking...I thought it might be a blue and not a black. I am still trying to get the fish ID thing down as well.

Thanks for the great post Ray. Sorry about you losing the halibut. That's the way
it goes sometimes but we learn from it. I have been chasing the halis now for a
while and when I had my chance, I blew it trying to show boat before the fish
was secured with the gameclip. I had the fish in the net already. Somehow
the halibut managed to jump out of the net. :smt009 The fish was barely hooked
so it was not meant to be.

Well it was an interesting day and a fun time fishing with my brother. As Ray said we got out somewhat early and was welcomed to foggy conditions. Hit the Marina first for some bait fish and what a treat that was. I wish my kids were there. They would have had a blast catching all the sardines. At one point I had four on at once. Pretty cool on a light weight trout rod. Although I don't like how friendly the seals are. I was bringing up a couple of sardines and out of no where a seal darted under the yak. I almost fell out lurching back with the rod to avoid that potential catch.  :smt044  :smt044 :smt044.

Anyhow out of the marina and off to some big fish or at least that was the plan. Paddling with the bait bucket dragging behind sure makes for one heck of a work out. Amazing how much drag it creates. We reached our desired spot after what seemed like forever and began fishing. Raydog hooked into a blue rockfish on a shrimp fly setup and I just bobbed up and down in the swell felling a little qeezy. Tried using one of those volunteers and was rewarded with nada. That's okay cause it is called fishing and not catching for a reason. Not much longer and Ray had a nice fish on. Bendo - Bendo. Oh yeah it's a Hali and a nice one from what he tells me. I never saw it.  :smt005 :smt005. Maybe it's a fish story cause I told him even when I lost mine, I at least got a picture first so really it was just catch and release.  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044. Anyhow loosing your first halibut can definately bring a grown man to darn near tears. As a good brother does I sat there and laughed at him as he had this look of disbelief.  :smt010. Guess karma would get me in the end and not much after that I started chumming the water. Told my bro that I was a team player and just trying to help his cause in catching another fish.

Not much happening after that. Ray did manage a small lingcod that went back into the big blue to grow up and fight for another day. We headed back into the marina and picked up some more sardines for bait to be used at our annual family gathering next weekend. After that we headed back to our launch site, packed up and headed for home. All in all it was a great day of fishing with my brother.

Take it Easy and if You get it Easy, Take it twice.  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044
