Brand new yak ,
first time out
,
glad I did all my safety prep,
16 noodles in the hull,
bilge pump,
VHF,
PFD,
wetsuit,
flares,
whistle,
canned horn.
(what no life raft?)

Some of you may remember my Another yak full of water story in May.

It was a 2 yrs old, the hull cracked, called the manufacturer, they replaced it, no problem.

Then I got too busy to fish (all summer long, ugh) but in the evenings I outfitted the new one and on Monday this week I finally got out to Tomales bay. Caught 5 macks, those little guys are insane fighters.

After about 4 hours on the water I needed something from the center hatch, I opened it and the little bucket popped up to meet my hand, Ohooooooo, that’s not good, I lifted the bucket and found about 3 inches of water in the hull. The boat had been getting a little sluggish but I thought it was the wind and current.  So, pulled out the trusty bilge pump, worked great. Glad I brought it on the maiden voyage. The mile or so back to the ramp was much nicer with an empty hull.  Good that it was a small hole.

Filled the boat with water to find the hole, pic attached.

That hole is not small (looks about the size of a quarter).   Did you call them and complain about the new yak (suppose to be defect free!)?  Good thing that you fully prepared for the maiden voyage!

How ya doing Sonny???

The hole is pretty small, That's just the way the pic looks, the hole is actually only about 1/8" square in the side of the scupper area, it's hard to tell but it's peeing from left to right in the pic,

I'm going to conatct the manufacturer but don't really want anything from them, just want to yell at them, (the company, not the people), everyone there was great to work with on the last problem.

I've already fixed the hole, I made a plug from a cutout piece of the yak (pimping leftovers) , and pushed it into the hole from the inside then melted it all together, leak check good, no flex and lots of support in that area so it should be OK.

Good to see life has let you back on the water!

What are the odds of getting a new yak with hole to replace a defective one? Glad you were prepared.

What is the brand and model of that yak? Potential buyers need to know.
