I threw some bamboo into my car prior to the Davenport derby, and a few guys decided to make use of it. One of them was Kirk (LilRiverMan), who was kind enough to provide me a hook he bent and ground in his shop. I finally used the hook and made a gaff. (Thanks Kirk!  :smt006 )

I still need to lacquer it to preserve it from drying out, but so far I love the way the bamboo cleaned up and dried out to a very rich brown color.

I also ran out of paracord mid way through the project, so I've only got a halfassed wrap on there. I wanted to do a double turks-head with a wrap in between. Anyone know where I can get some paracord locally?

Thanks for the beautiful bamboo you gave me at Davenport. It has become my practice sword, walking staff and less-than-lethal yard defense tool. :smt003

My hood is a bit rough and, according to my wife, the Glock and the Mossberg aren't always the appropriate response to vermin and other things that go bump in the night.  :smt003

"What's this for, snakes and such?"

We don't have any snakes here, Mr. Hendershot...

Glad you're getting some use from it!

[/quote] i had the same problem about a month ago, tweeker started trouble, so i came out the house with my 9mm and told him it was time to leave. sheriffs show up and arrest him. he starts whining to the sheriffs cause i pointed a gun at him. deputy tells me i should have used this cold steel escrima stick i kept by the door,or the kindling ax that was outside instead of the gun. didn't hit me till later when i was thinking about it..... so i can use the ax and cut off an arm but i can't shoot him? lol
