I went out to lake sonoma today to troll and cast around.. play with a few new things on the yak.. etc..  and decided to suit up in the kokatat pants and my semi dry top(extrasport, has the inside skirt that tucks into the pants) and jump in to see if I got wet.    No water on first submersion.. pressure from the water caused the pants to stick to my legs as I think they are supposed to do.   As I sat there in the water for a couple mins tho, swam around a bit like I might if I had to flip the yak .. etc, water started getting in.  More than I thought would get in.   All was just slow seepage at the waist but it got my paddle shorts soaked and when I removed the pants, they had water in the feet.  Not much, but there was some.    Is this what is supposed to happen?

No water at all got in the extrasport jacket.

I've taken a couple spills in the surf and didn't get any water in the pants. I am thinking the jacket seal and pants slipped apart. Also you really got snug the pant waste band down. Sean/SBD and Chuck have had them for a bit maybe they will chime in.

Funny, I did the exact same thing yesterday in the inner harbor near Alameda, and I have the same setup--Extrasport semi-dry top (thank you, Sierra Trading Post) and Kokatat Tempest pants.

--I also got some water in.  It got in right away, more than I expected, not a ton but I didn't stay immersed very long.  I had been out for a couple of hours and deliberately did not readjust the pants/top connection before immersing.

--I found myself kind of stuck floating on my stomach instead of standing up & down, apparently due to a little bit of trapped air that all ended up on my back side.

Anybody more experienced want to chime in with some advice?

I got totally tubed a couple weeks ago wearing tempest pants and top. One somersault in the curl then another one over my head and little bobbing. I hadn't even tightened the draw strings and only had about a cup of water enter. It was just enough to dampen my pants.
The "gator" on the top really worked good. Sean got dunked also but had his drawstrings cinched, he was dry!

Last Friday, at Bean Hollow in heavy fog, a big sea lion surfaced a few feet away from Eric B.

I'm estimating there was about a cup of water in his pants.
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Im thinking now that maybe I didnt have every thing cinched up as tight as should have been.   Also by more water than I thought I guess I expected it to be pretty much none.  My shorts were damp  and I think the water ran down into the feet once I got out.. but there for sure was no more than a cup altogether.  Not near that accumulated in the feet.   I also swam around a bit and it was def over a minute before I felt any water seepage.
