Thanks to Mooch's tip, my youngest and a neighbor took some light tackle out yesterday.  Fished in the outer harbor in our skiff out by the moorings with Sabikis of course.  Mnny, many skiffs and yaks out.  Must have been a hundred guys off the harbor wall pulling them in.

Darn, I was out there but could get not get any.  But then I was by the entrance and all those seals probably was chasing them off.  I did see all the people down by the rocks.

Glad you guys got into 'em :smt023 I've been fishing behind the Harbor Patrols Office for the past 4 days (after work). I'll be taking out my yak tomorrow. If conditions are good, I'll make bait and head out to the green buoy...if it's bad, I'll stay in and catch dines for shits and giggles :smt002

Met Darius just an hour ago and we had a good time catching a bunch. Darius took me out to dinner after - at the Gran Amigo place - thanks brow  :smt002 Good stuff!!!

....and the carnage continues...

I was there on saturday at sunrise. There was a guy at the pier's fish cleaning station (yes by the bathrooms, that should not have leaky pipes since they were just remodeled), catching one or two on every cast. He had a glove on his left hand just for grabbing the fish and throwing them in the cooler. And just one more guy by the HM office.
A few hours later it was elbow to elbow and no action. It must be the tide or the sun coming out. The HM was walking back and forth yelling at everybody for overhead casting. He said there has been broken windshields. Pretty entertaining. I saw a big dude land an under hand cast between two boats all the way across. I don't know if it was skill or luck. 100 people and I didn't see one caught.

My wife loves fish period but we prefer to eat the smaller guys more frequently because they don't have significant Mercury. And Sardines, Mackerel, Anchovies are loaded with Omega-3 oils and you can catch a lot of them. My plan is usually to make bait and then some. Then drift and take advantage of the time to catch more bait. Pregnant woman and children should only eat Halibut once a month according to DFG and the rest of us once a week but I figure what's safest is what I am doing. Same with Lings and other big predatory fish including Stripers. I feel it is better to take just barely legal ones and let the big boys go (after weighing and pics of course for AOTY, etc.)--leave their genes in the pool and their mercury in the sea. Could be worse: they burn so much coal in Utah that ducks are too full of mercury to eat any more and most fishes are too.
