Got woken up by rain drops @ 3am, went outside to cover some bags of cement...Wish my camera was working :smt009 I could post some incredible pics of a lighting storm that's going off as I type way south of me towards Napa...I hear no thunder...

Half my life is WY and I Recall on a boy scout trip in the Bridger wilderness, we were returning from a week outing, the fishing was the best I've ever seen!  We even had a group of trout in a stream by our camp that would take guts right out of your hand while cleaning fish!!!  We swore a pack, all of us to "not" fish them...pretty cool stuff...

but on the hike out, high elevation above the timber line we ran into a storm, it was so loud, the "thunder" that one kid peed his pants :smt005 what an awesome display of power!  It was a 20 mile hike out, we covered the distance so fast, was like a dream... :smt001  must of been around 73'

Hope the lighting doesn't do what it did last yr... :smt009

I was OTW @ OC when that lighting storm rolled through, and thinking "lighting, not good for yakking?" so i headed in... :smt001 even took some incredible pics, but when i sat on my camera last yr it fried the SD card :smt009 Man I had 2 mths of abs/fish/sunsets/...  :smt009  but at least my memory's are there :smt044 :smt044 :smt044
It's all about Today!!! Because who knows what tomorrow will bring... so Better get OTW n GetSome

We had some good boomers here in Windsor as well and a bit of rain.   I was up at 4 to try and run out to tomales and poke around but decided against it.   I can still see the flashes off in that direction.

I love Tomales bay..  been yakking there for some time and had fished it from a pb, but till I got this SOT I had not fished it from a yak.    I was out there last week and got nada.. of course I didnt bring along my lightweight gear and there were bait fish or mackerel jumping out of the water all around me.  lol.     great place to go even if you arent catching.

From Windsor it takes me about 40 mins to get there, via cotati and out 116.   Great launch spot at Miller park.

Im also thinking about hitting a lake today at some point.. not sure where tho.  Still have lightning atm so playng it by ear.

its been rocking and rolling here over Tam all morning...some of that lightning you saw was probably way back over here...its moved past now, but the bolts were close! three or four seconds between flash and boom.

I spent every summer and every winter break SW of jackson wy a ways, then moved there in 90 for a few years-- beautiful mountain storms. I have to say though NOTHING compares (yes i've been to florida) to the insanity of the desert monsoons.
that smell of evaporating water on dry ground really makes me miss it

Great lightning here in Vallejo too! It started around 3:30 this morning and it's still raining off and on right now after 8:00 am. Love it! :smt003

Some heavy crackin' here in the city this morning, too. Some less than a mile away from my place, according to the ol' timing rule...

Same in Tahoe and Carson City...

It went from a beautiful morning to reasonably high winds and lightning.

I saw the clouds forming on the other side of the lake about a 30 minutes to an hour after the CC broadcast a securite.  So I kept an eye on them and when they started reaching for my side I decided to paddle in closer to shore to see how things played out.

When off shore winds suddenly stopped and things went dead calm I was sure that something was up. When the onshore winds came howling in it was like a switch got flipped.

No fish, no pics. I was busy tryng to get my graphite rods into my truck and myself and my gear along with them. The lightning was hitting and the thunder was booming way to quickly afterwards.

Then later today I saw my 1st lighting fire start on the other side of the mountains in Carson a few hours after my nephew was born.

P.S.

Kayak inspections are only mandatory when requested by an official. You are still allowed to launch without an inspection...

Also the drift chute setup recommended here worked like a dream. Thank you.
