I'll sum this up in a couple of words, followed by some nice pictures.
     VERRRRYYY SLOOWWW
Other than that it was a great trip. Met my dad (1st yak trip) and a good friend from So Cal on Wed night. Started off by watching bear raid the Vons dumpster. Cool.
Thurs morn we were tired but hit Lake Mary at 7 am. Asked a couple kayakers how the fishing was. They said 2 days ago it was great now slow. Long story short, Dad hooked 1 little stocker in 6 hrs, buddy lost one pretty good one too.
Fri. Same start with worse results. NO FISH. Only saw a couple caught in 5-6 hrs. Took off to do some stream fishing. Little better. I finally caght a nice little rainbow. Forgot camera. Fished Mamie in the eve. I have never seen a bear in Ca, believe it or not. Well now I have seen 5. As we fished Mamie a young male went running through the parking lot with people following it taking pictures. I think they were crazy. They were right on its heels. Then about 20 mins later a mom and 2 cubs came through. Went after an ice chest from people fishing on shore. Pretty funny. Kids crying, parents yelling, some of the same people chasing the other one.
Sat. Same start. A little better. See a few fish being caught. Some nice alpers too. Around 12 the bite picked up and fish being hooked quite often. I was surprised by a nice little Brookie. Then next cast hooked a big one. Faught it for a little bit, then it broke my 6 lb line. Felt like a real good one. Damn. Fished Lake George as a storm aproached. More bears too. Few sprinkles so we called it a day and got the fire going. Rained from 10 pm till at least 11 am next morn. Went down to Bishop to bass fish. Windy, but got some action. Camera still in Mammoth. oops.
Here are some pics from a very fun, but slow trip. I'm in the Lime Tarpon, dad in pam 120, red vest, buddy in other yak. I wish I could show you all the great pics.

Backcountry is almost always good fishing. Usually smaller fish, just right for cooking on a stick over the fire. Take lots of flies and salmon eggs. I've spent many years, a long time ago, backpacking in those mountains.

Cool pics  :smt001 The bears thing must have been interesting, quite comical if not in part retarded. Aren't bears supposed to be dangerous?

Well, everything I had. Spinners of every type, Rapalas, Panther  Martin, rooster tails, Powerbait trout worms-pink,orange, chartreuse, Variouse colors of all. The only thing working seemed to be powerbait. Go figure. I finally broke down and drown some p-bait. It worked. so did the p bait worms once. Pops used his flies, dry and wet. he had some hits from small fish. Hoked one and landed it 8 inch or so. P bait in chartreuse for me was best. I think I heard gulp was working also. Do not know the flavors.
I don't know about hiking yaks in, pretty rockie and steep.   Good luck to you. Give us a report when you return.
