been wanting a low profile baitcaster for a while and finally got the revo inshore.  Its first fish was a 25 inch hali that it handled with ease.  Casts like a dream, and that says a lot, cuz I suck at casting.

Question though, the levelwind disengages when it casts.  Is that normal for this reel?  My other shimanos and penns do not disengage.

Yep, this reel will cast a country mile. It free spools so well that I had trouble with backlashes at first, but now I know that if I'm really going to muscle a cast as hard as I can, then I make sure the levelwind is in the center. It doesn't matter much for average casting, but it helps a lot when you're really whipping a lure as far as you can.  :smt002

Although I LOVE my shimano reel (Calcutta 401 TE)...the Abu Revo inshore is a close second  :smt045

Yes, I've experienced this too and don't much care for it.  :smt011

BTW-the disengaging levelwind is pretty typical for modern narrow level winds.

Being new to low profile reels, why is this not a good thing?

Theoretically your line and levelwind won't be in alignement...which is exactly what happens.  However on a narrow spool it hasn't ever been a problem for me.  IMHO the benefits of reduced resistance during casting greatly out weigh the cons.

My experience with baitcasters over the years has shown that you will either get drag in the line from misalignment of spool and levelwind, or drag in the gears from the levelwind trying to keep up with the spool (peddle/paddle?).
It seems to be the bearings and the cut of the gears that make the real difference.
Just my .02 cents

By the way, I bought all my reels at Fisherman's Warehouse (shameless plug for Eric :smt002) because they support NCKA  :smt045
