I just got this survey in the mail. Looks like its from the Dept of Commerce/NOAA. Happy to fill it out, but can someone help me understand what its all about I'd hate to do myself (us) in un-knowingly.

Dont know about your survey but I was asked to do an on going phone survey a few years ago.  About the time the MLPA stuff was happening, I decided not to tell them where I fish, when I fish, what I catch, what I keep etc.

I got a letter the other day from NOAA saying they are going to send me a survey soon. I'd like to know what it's about too.

I may be totally off base here but my feelings are that the people who don't mind you catching fish 'don't mind you catching fish' and really could care less what you get unless they want to go out and get some too.
The people who want to limit what you can do always want to know what you do.
Just my .02 and I may be totally wrong on this. Just my perspective.

My name must be on some gov.sportsman list since I get these surveys from different agency's quite often. I have done them for Idaho and Oregon about my hunting and dept. of interior about my duck kills. I was even a duck wing collector for 6-8 years,They wanted all the wings from my ducks and geese and then I would get a report from them on what kind of bird, age, sex and where they thought the bird was from,I also received the NOAA fishing survey notice but no survey yet,In the past they want to know how often I fish and where, and how much money I have spent driving the economy with my food, gas, bait and boat and tackle purchases. This is where they get the numbers to say that sports people are adding x-amount of money to local economy's or how much money is lost with the closing of hunting and fishing seasons

I got the NOAA survey notice, but no survey yet either...hope that fishbutt21 is correct and that the info gathered will be used to portray the fishing community in a positive light...

If you guys think any different or have any other insight I look forward to hearing about it...

Sincerely,

Jim

I glanced at the survey and it seems like FB is correct. Although they ask a few questions about hypothetical rockfish bag limits. Hmmmm

Well I just received my survey in the mail,I did look it over and when I got to the page where they want to know how much money I spend in a year fishing I realized my wife can't see the survey if I want to continue fishing in the future. :smt010 And that is bad since she fishes with me most of the time
