you have seriously crossed the line into hardcore...paddling that SUP-thing 10 miles! dang man...you could be halfway to the farallons!

SUP'ing is easy to learn but it can also be the hardest thing to paddle - especially against the wind and with some wind chop to go with it. You definitely get a FULL BODY WORK OUT from it  :smt045  AND it sure beats going to a gym  :smt002

DUDE! you don't need to qualify your studliness..I'm already on board.  Paddling a kayak 10 miles is a chore...paddling standing up-- Holy SH@t....

as soon as I recover (financially)from this summers adventures Im getting one.
still need to do alot of homework but paddling yours at mendo has me sold.
I think it will be great for sightfishing and maybe some freshwater surf at C-lake.

WTG Mooch! Ten miles is quite a paddle on a SUP.My SUP experience was over in less than two and I was exhausted. It is a total body workout.

Nice job on the workout Joel... 10 miles seems like a hella'va long way in a kayak let alone a paddleboard.

I do have a question though... if I stand up to paddle my kayak around can I forgo the PFD also?!?

I've been asked this question many times - in the San Mateo lagoon, the Harbor Patrol says "you NEED to have a PFD" but I spoke to our SUP dealer in Santa Cruz and they said that most of the SUP riders don't wear one BUT they do wear a leash. I honestly don't know the specific rules but I plan to wear an inflatable belt pouch for saftey reasons.

The sport is fairly new (and growing FAST) - I'm sure rules will be put in place but I can already see loop holes...for instance, if you plan to surf the SUP then you can obviously get away without having to wear a PFD ...but if you're simply cruising around then you'll most like fall into the "vessel" category - thus, the need to wear one.

I agree w/ Mooch. If you have a leash it's a heck of a floatation device. And if the ruling that a windsurfer doesn't need a pfd because their sail becomes a sea anchor then a leash should more than suffice.

Now that you conquered Bair Island you should put our Philippine flag on the island.  Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun and some good exercise too.
