Well, I got to fish, but no halibut for me. I fished it for 3 days and the only fish landed was a large leopard. I did miss several mystery fish though, heart pumpers all.

The water looks soooo nice.  Love that place when the wind is managable. Great close-up picture of the Smelt!  Thanks for the report and pictures Juan.

Not a smelt , herring ? My favorie place to fish hali , never know what you're gonna hook and always catch lots of fish , even if they are just sharks . Have caught some real decent 7 gills and angel sharks , epic battle on basically black bass tackle !

Thanks for the correction Dan.  I caught lots of Smelts last time I was there so I thought it's one of them at a glance.  I need my glasses  :smt003

Not a smelt, though I caught some of them too. Not a herring either, though I caught some anchovies. Not a mackerel, they were around too.
It's a sardine.

Thanks for the correct name of the "bait fish" Juan :smt003  Next time please take the picture of the "whole" fish so I can identify it correctly  :smt044

Juan, Nice running into you at the dock after fishing Saturday. I didn't have a bite all day but it sure was fun catching bait including smelt, mackerel, and shiners. Catching dozens of mackerel was the highlight of my day..total mayhem trying to get a grip on them once they are off the sabiki. The wind threatened early and then disappeared until well after three. I fished the west end towards the mouth and was  treated to bugling elk on the point. One bull had about thirty cows in his little harem....who would want that much responsibility :smt002

Allen, good to see you too. I would have recognized you sooner if your boat was granite and sporting a florou flag.
As I was taking the pic of the sardine's eye I was thinking of your albie-eye.
I spent today getting the salt out of my gear. I'm now ready to go again!
Give that bull a yak and he''ll mostly forget the harem.

Thanks for the great pics and the 3 day recon report!  That is such a luxury having information about so many places!  Tomales is a very special place and I am sure you had a blast even without the major bendo!

Thanks for the reports, fellas.

Bob and I waited and waited for the tide to come in. We sat there for almost two hours and by the time the tide started coming in good there were no f**king parking places left!  :smt013

We ended up shooting down to Black Point and fishing the 'Luma. One 22" striper for Bob, nada for me.

Nice try Juan. I really have an intense lovehate realationship with Tomales. Only 20 minutes from my house makes it likeable but getting blown off and skunked more times than I care to admit makes me hate it. I have aten dinner at Hog Island at 8pm during the summer a couple of times though and then I forgive her for all the pain. Wishing I cpould have met you on the water. Keep on keeping on Juan.
