Fishing was good, catching was not for me. Once again martin scored one Butt just to avoid a skunk. On my last tack of the afternoon, the wind had drifted me out quite far as I rigged up to use three Chovies.  While fishing my way in I observed that Martin had called it a day. I pulled the line in and power peddled toward the launch where Martin and his home brew awaited. Pop, suddenly no pedal resistance. Call for assistance Martin had already car-topped his ride. NCKA Fishemotion offered a free tow. Hope he never has a problem, but if he does I want to be there for him. Against the wind I could paddle 1.3 mph but unlikely I'd last all the way to the launch. Fishemotion did the deed at 1.7 mph. NCKA Rocks!!! dave

Hi Dave,

Glad everything turned out OK.  I always carry an anchor when fishing in the bay or where the current/wind can be strong, that way when I need to pause for a rest, I drop the anchor so I don't loose ground due to the current/wind.

Sonny that anchor is a smart idea. I always carried one on the Hobie Sport. On future trips I will have more than just the anchor line on the Outback. dave

Dave,

It was good to see you out there on the water and I'm glad to have been able to have assisted. I can only imagine the feeling of that cable popping. WTF! The wind was blowing at a pretty decent bit... I'm glad all turned out well. Gonna make sure I try and remember to inspect my drive parts more seriously from now on as well!

I am assuimg that it was a mirage drive system on a hobie that failed?  Did you find out why it failed and is there something that the rest of us should know maintenance wise?

Fishing report is now going off topic, but he brought up something real important. The cable to the aft fin broke right at the swedge. I just inspected the drive and discovered the nut to that one had backed way out creating a loose cable. It was preventable. Inspect YES!!
