A good friend is going to kayak around Queen Charlotte Islands in BC.  She has a fishing rod although not too experienced with fishing.  I suggested mooching for salmon with a hair raiser and an anchovy fillet.  Would trolling be better?  (Although trickier for an inexperienced fisherman.)  Does anyone know what works up there?  I have gotten some very cool advice from people here and would love some guidance for her.  She leaves Wednesday.  Thanks.

Mooching herring in a bait holder (FBR, RSK) would be the easiest. She could also use some spoons behind that banana sinker. Sonic Edges's, Coyote's, Diamond Kings and the like get good action.

That part of the world is so beautiful I'd be tempted to leave the rod at home and just bring a camera. If the weather cooperates just a little bit she'll have a wonderful time... is my envy showing?   :colors:

Let me get Jeff to chime in here.  He used to guide kayak fishing up there.

If it was me, and I didn't have access to bait. I'd bring a unch of buzz bombs 43-4oz, silvver, green, or pink.

You can throw them, jig them, troll them or mooch them.  they are killer.

Spoons also.

she mighjt get a salmon but could use those lures for rockfish and poss halibut as well.  Get dinner at least.

You can certaily mooch with a baitholder though.   :smt002  It basically does the same thing that cutplugging does.

Get some gitzits and a couple 1/2 oz jigs.  Tip the gitzit with a little chunk of bait and hold on.  When it was still legal to use barbed hooks with bait, was one of the best salmon getting rigs out there.  Also, get some swim baits and 1/2-4 oz jig heads.  Will work great for rockfish and lings.  I think trolling is a lot harder than bait fishing for someone not experienced.  Some buzz bombs, etc will work for salmon and rockcod.

I have a cousin in port townsend

when I win the lotto I'll have to pay you seattle guys a visit

all that good fishing going to waste

If you're running out of steam trolling the fbrs work great picking through the rocky spots for lings  A little bit of work keeping off the snag but worth it
