Anybody ever stay here?  If so; can you share your experiences...

My wife and I planned a trip for a week in August to take the yaks and do some camping.  We orignally booked our stay at Woodside RV Park and did a drive-by yesterday while we were in Fort Bragg for the day.

Woodside is not the same place it used to be... man, was it ROUGH.  Filled with full-time squatter folks who seem to be down on their luck.  Obviously not the place for us.

We called lots of places (Caspar, Pomo, et cetera) and found them all full.  Hidden Pines had space for us so we jumped at the chance to stay somewhere a bit safer.  Of course, they don't have a website so we really don't know what we are getting into... Feel free to share other suggestions if we should avoid this place, too.

The wife and I don't have wetsuits so we were looking at fishing lake Cleone and taking the yaks up Noyo.  We looked at Van Damme bay and liked the way the cove looked- attractive to us newbies.  Could we swing fishing Van Damme without wetsuits if the day is hot, the water is calm AND we stay in the quiet water?  Is it worth fishing in the calm water?  Obviously I need a little ocean fishing assistance!  (I'm afraid!!!).

Thanks for the help!

I think Hidden Pines is OK. I drive by there all the time.  It seems well kept up.

You could rent gear or go on a tour with Craig the guy who runs Lost Coast Adventures, the kayaking concession at Van Damme.  If you went on a tour, it would be fun and would give you valuable ocean experience.   There's also Sub Surface Progression which rents yaking suits.

Really, don't go in the North Pacific without experience and a wetsuit.  You might be fine, but if you end up in that water without a suit you have about 15 minutes - max.
