My wife and I fished the Umpqua and caught Between 60 and 80 smallmouth bass. Nothing big but the action was nonstop! We fisghed with Spurlin's guide service; Randy Spurlin. He did a awesome job. We have never fished from a drift boat and it was a great experience. We went through a few small rapids, got out and went swimming, and caught fish after fish. I can't wait to go back and try Steelhead sometime. This trip was a b-day present for my wife. I would HIGHLY recommend this trip to anybody who wants to take a spouse fishing who might not be into it much (My wife is into fishing, we went fishing in La Paz for our honey moon).Check out his web-site(hope this is OK with NCKA). I'll have to post the pics later.

Congrat on the non-stop action!  Thank you for the report and looking forward to see the pictures.

sounds great.  I have wanted to fish the umpqua for smallies since i was 12, but never got up there. do any NCKAers know if there is public launch access to do a float down?  i know most of the land around the river is private but the water should still be free to drift.

Nice to hear you had a good time in Oregon.  Come back up sometime for steelhead, you can catch them just about every month of the year up here, but Dec - Apr is best for the winter run depending on the river.

Yes, the guide took us from one launch to the next. There were some sections that wouyld be very interesting with a yak, unless it is a short one.
