There is no question that the inflatable Wheel-eeze is the way to go.

But for some of us poor suckers who don't have the scratch to drop on wheels before some other essential kit (for me that's a decent paddle), DIY is a decent alternative. Of course, they won't be good across the sand. And they'll suck over rocks. But for Paradise, they work fine! (and many other situations as well)

So after abducting the wheels from my wife's golf bag pull-cart, and a little PVC pipe shopping trip, I had a workable prototype.

I was planning on trying it out for awhile before applying the final PVC cement, so the support arms were still removable. I needed to install the mount to my FF, and did not have a kayak stand, and decided to use them to support the yak on my Black & Decker portable work table. Worked like a charm.

Since the work table is also my fish cleaning table, that means that the combo is 3 tools in one! Yay!!!

Not so exciting maybe, but here are the pics to show the various roles.

Great minds think alike  :smt002

I yanked the wheels off my golf cart as well and ran a piece of PVC pipe across the bottom of my milk crate gear box. bought an axle for the wheels and now have a cart/crate combo  :smt004
works well but haven't tried it in the sand.

have you tried it in the sand yet obkook? hope it works!

Hmm.  Ive got a golf cart.. got pipe..   rainy day.. Hmm.   I dont think those wheels would do very good on sand or anything uneven but I dont go too many places like that yet.

I've used it on relatively packed sand without any issue at all.
In loose, deep sand you might as well be dragging the yak sans wheels.
It doesn't go over mini boulders very well though.
Gravel, dirt, and obviously cement is not a problem at all.

It *does* work just as well as the other hard-wheel carts out there.

I built the original prototype without a through-axle, using individual lag bolts on either side, but this was definitely not strong enough, and I ended up putting some threaded re-bar all the way through the bottom pipe. MUCH better.
