Hi NCKA just wanted to say i'm a new member and what a great site this is. I want to install flush rod holders on my tarpon 120 behind my seat. I've been looking online at them and the kit comes with SS screws, a gasket, and the holders. Is that all I need? Maybe alittle silicone? Should I use the screws or would nut and bolt or rivits be better? Also it seems I should mount them at alittle angle so the rod and line ride out over the side alittle so not to interfear with my net or spare rod. I want to do my homework before i just go drilling and mounting and find I could have done it better.

you got the idea mount out wards a little, if you can get to the back side not and washer them, if not i would use the good rivets like hook1 sells, and some marine goop on them and be good to go, and welcome  :smt006

Here are a couple shots of factory installed flushmounts on a Tarpon 120 Angler.  You should get a good idea of placement and angle from these.  I would use 1/4"x 20 stainless flat head screws with stainless locknuts to secure these (probably 1/2" length, but check).  Use a dab of marine Goop around the head of the screw on the inside to help create a waterproof seal.  In my opinion, rivits are crap, the nut and bolt will give you options and a nice tight fit.

Thanks for the info. Xsquid very nice pics. Is there anything on the underside to give the rod holders more backbone or are the screws just into the plastic? I mainly fish salt water so they must hold up to big fish. Xsquid have you added anything else to your yak?

With the flush mounts being so low and the wide collar around the top, I don't think there would be any issues with torque and kayak damage.  I did use backing under the console area up front though.

I kept the 140 pretty basic and designed it around bass fishing.  Everything is mounted along the centerline so I can easily have a couple rods in my lap and not get them hung up on anything.  If I'm going to troll for stripers or trout, I'll remove the Ram adapter ball from the Scotty (holding the gps in the pics) and add a triple mount with rod holder on one side, downrigger on the other, and put the gps in the middle.  I don't have a pic of this configuration, all of that gear has  been put up for a while.

If anything, get a seat pad and make some nice scupper plugs.  It will give you a much more comfortable ride.

xsquid THANKS! ya have the seat pad. That was my first purchase after i got the yak. Gotta be comfortable :smt002 I have already installed the scotty rod holder (same place as you) works great. But I do need the flush mounts for trolling. Did you make the plugs? I can't seem to find anywhere that sells the plugs for wilderness. Wonder why?

Places carry the scupper plugs that fit, but I haven't found a set that I like.  They are make of rubber and do not seat well.  They will eventually work their way out.  Make a better set out of foam (practice) golf balls.  Make a hole in them and use a length of shoe lace as a lanyard.  Knot the ends where it leaves the ball, put a couple washers under the knot to keep it from pulling out.

Just my 2 cense if you can reach it use nut, bolt and large washer and I will even use a backing plate for support. If you can not reach it defiantly use rivets, like I said just my 2 censes :smt004.

No problem.  I poached most of these ideas from other creative people!  Just trying to give back a little.
