So I got up before work this morning excited to try a new launch near my house that faces south and is fairly protected. However, it's big rocks, barnacles, slippery stuff, etc. You get the picture. I was very proud of myself for remembering everything for the first time ever. I got down to the spot at low tide and D'oh, forgot shoes or any kind of footwear. I was feeling pretty macho and decided who needs shoes? What a dumbass! :smt009 I got everything over all the rocks just fine, launced without incident, and had a great time fishing. When I was coming in, there was a bit of shorebreak but nothing too gnarly, you just had to try and time it right between sets. I did a decent job of that but had to rush at the beach before a small set came behind me. Somewhere in the melee of hopping off and trying to position the kayak for a little shore slapper on the rocks, I felt a slice on my foot. It didn't seem too bad until I dragged the kayak out completely, looked down, and saw a pool of blood on the rocks.  :jawdrop I took a look at the bottom of my foot and when I pulled the cut apart, I could see muscle, some fatty stuff, etc. and knew this was deep and bad. I grabbed what I could from my kayak, hobbled up the stairs of the cliff to the road, and luckily found 3 strapping 25 yr old dudes getting ready for a surf. I asked them for help and they carried my stuff up to the car and helped me the kayak on the roof. I raced home and my wife took me to the emergency room.  :smt008 When the doctor was cleaning it out, he mentioned that you could see the tendon to a nurse and my wife went to take a look. Yikes! Now that it's all said and done, I'm laid out on the couch with my sweet wife taking care of me, feeding me Tylenol, and cooking me dinner  :angel5: and my foot looks like this:

It's good to hear everything worked out. Too bad about your foot, but it could have turned out worse.

Be well SlayRide!

I am a SoCal native, had the same thing happen while staying at a friends house near Tourmaline (sp?). Surfed for a couple hours and had to walk about 3/4 mile back to house with half a toe. Went to a concert that night but no amount a beer made the pain go away.... maybe I didn't apply myself.

Cheers to a good wife and quick healing.

Ahh that's nothin'. Just walk it off.       :smt002

Get better soon. There's nothing like a good woman to take your mind off your troubles.
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!

Yes, it could have been much, much worse. I consider it a warning to have shoes with me for those types of places - ALWAYS!

That's exactly where it happened! Right at the north end where La Jolla starts. So I'm not the only one, that makes me feel a little better. By the way, you're correct on the spelling of the beach but off on spelling the town you live in. ;)

That's a doozie!  But isn't saltwater good for the cut?

See you out there.

good eye. most of my posts occur after a few cold ones. North end was the same spot for me, low tide killed the Karl Denson show for me many years ago.

No idea but probably just a sharper rock or a barnacle/sharp rock combo. One or two more days of crutches and then another week and a half before the stitches come out. Then I have to wait a few more days or a week before I can go in the ocean again. Until then, I'll live vicariously through reading reports and looking at everyone's photos.
