Last time I was at the salvage yard I didn't find what I needed, but being like a raccoon--attracted to anything shiny--I noticed all the chrome scattered on the ground...lug nuts! I quickly snatched up enough to justify the 2 bucks I'd spent to get in the gate. Here's what finally became of 'em - at least a start, anyway.

Coated wire, crimp sleeves, split rings & drill a few holes. The bottom one has an extra plastic chrome bead to hold on the last nut. Haven't weighed 'em but between 4 & 6 oz.

Below is a little jig I made with just a painted lead ball and some plastic chrome beads (from a craft store). I put a plastic tail on the hook for some added action - caught rockies & a barely legal ling on one of these at Ft Ross.

Nope, they'll rust! A clear coat or some primer on the inside threads would help with that but these were the first ones I tried, so I didn't get that far.

It only takes one good fish to make it worth your while Aaron. Nice job. I can't
wait to see what you'll catch with it.

Awesome idea.  I love homemade rockfish jigs.  I have a few crazy designs of my own that I'm currently testing.

I wouldn't worry about a little rust, especially if they're chromed lug nuts.  Rustoleum paint is another option.
