Well, I had some time on my hands and some crap laying around in the garage (and I'm cheap). I love catching bait.  However, I have no skills at throwing a cast net. And I hate dealing with the tangled hooks on a sabiki rod (am I even spelling sabiki correctly?). Looking at those ahi rods where the line runs inside the blank look so cool. But they are $50 bucks (remember, I'm cheap). So here is the blow by blow fabrication plan.

- I took some 1/2 inch non metallic conduit and flared the end out by heating the plastic and pushing in a small tabasco bottle. I did this so the line would not hang up and the weight would have a nice place to sit. (pic 1 and pic 2)

-For the line entry (from the reel) into the blank I drilled a hole (at a steep angle) then heated up the plastic and flared it out with a nail so the line won't get hung up or get cut/frayed. (pic 3)

- Thanks to Sonny/Sailfish (you rock!) I zipped tied on an small bait caster reel and thread the line through. Clipped on a sabiki rig and TA DA! (pic 4).

Standard sabiki rigs are made with 5-6 hooks which makes the whole rig to long to sit inside the 5ft rod. I solved this by splitting a six hook rig in half. Three hooks is plenty and waaaay simpler to deal with. 5 or 6 hooked baits at once is a real hassle to deal with. I'll hit up the salt soon and report back on it's performance. If anyone sees any glaring flaws let me know!

instead of zip tying the reel, i'd use a hose clamp. then if it come loose, you can retighten.

That is very cool, thanks for sharing.  That will be my next project.

3 hooks is the limit in the bay anyhow.
