I'm using a secret squirrel sauce that keeps me from getting hungry... Hammer Perpetuem.
A bottle (3 scoops) every other hour in conjunction with another water bottle, a few EnduroLytes, and a V8 on the second hour = no hunger (when i fell off the program is when i had the bonk-light)

18% grade or so for 4 miles

I wonder what percentage of normal recreational riders could even stay upright on 18% for 100 feet?

Congratulations on finishing an epic ride.

so -- in absolute reality, after going over my GPS/altimeter data, that climb is not 18% for the entire 4 miles, at least if you end up tacking like i did. here's how it breaks down with the garming and my tacking

max grade 21%- that lasts for like 3 tenths of a mile, 2 miles > 11% (that's where max grade is), 1/2 mile at 18+%, and another 2 between 9-11%...

I exported your gps file to Google Earth. I'm even more impressed with your ride after looking at it on a bigger map. Your gps has a lot of good info and seems to track well.

yah-- i'm a huge fan of the garmin 705 now. ANT power and HR data, the receiver never seems to lose a signal (even on my mtb in deep trees), and 15 hours of battery time at least between charges.
