I'm here in Japan and have hit up a number of the tackle shops here doing some exploring. First let me say that for a lure junkie, this place is absolute heaven! There are swimbaits and jigs that I've never seen anywhere else. I couldn't take a picture in the shop, unfortunately...

There are also a ton of rods here that are also exclusive to Japan - even rods by Abu for example, which are spec made only for Japan.

I finally decided on a Baymatic by Angler's Republic. It's made for sea bass, 6'6", ML 8-16#, 2-piece graphite. It's got an incredibly good feel to it, and although it is a bit on the light side, as a second rod, it's just what I'm looking for. (The owner of the shop used one and has caught some ridiculously big seabass on it.)

I paired it with a Daiwa baitcaster (not sure that is sold in the US either), low profile and 25# braided casting line.

I'm hoping this will turn out to be a good "all-rounder", and is even light enough for LMB.

By the way, I was able to put 150M of line on this which seemed more than enough - thoughts on how much you need?

Its always cool to see foreign tackle shops. That rod sounds perfect. And 150M will be plenty. Keep in mind its hard to get spooled in a yak since most of the time you are moving with fish

From what I've experienced so far, you can't get things much cheaper, but you can get stuff that is not exported outside of Japan. If I have some time, I might make another trip to a different tackle shop before I leave tomorrow, and will take a look at the Yamamoto pricing. What do you consider cheap?

Yesterday I went to Sansui - one of the largest chain tackle shops in Tokyo, known for having EVERYTHING, but typically not at a discount. You know how some libraries have sliding bookshelves in order to get more capacity in a given area? Well, the shop yesterday had an entire wall of lures and jigs with FOUR LEVELS deep of sliders. I'm telling you I've never seen so much lure eye candy... I bought about 6 assorted things (one was a "Froating minnow" which I just couldn't pass up), but as I'd already burnt my credit card up on the rod and reel, I didn't go too crazy.

That would sorta suck since they are made in Arizona
