The other pic with Allen holding a flounder hooked sideways came right after he told me that the flatfish up there sometimes will "lay on" a bait then get side hooked.

The flounder was like a volunteer illustration of the concept.  Cracked us up.

Or maybe the Allen bendo shot  Look at the picture his rod is actually pretty hefty and a stiff blank. When that flattie hit I was watching and the head shakes shook Allen's whole upper body, from 180 FOW.  Giant shakes! I can only imagine what a big one would feel like.

Allen

That was no flounder.  It was a baby butt for sure.  Yeah, I was telling Allen earlier that sometimes the butts will lay on your jig/lure/bait trying to smother them and you would side hook them.  And lo and behold ...

That bendo shot was from the Quicksilver.  I was jigging Kalin BigN.  It hit and I got it about 5 cranks off the bottom then it let go.  I dropped back down and she came back.  This one gave a good fight for its size.  I was using a fairly heavy rod and as you can tell it was putting a good bend in it.  Then came the violent head shakes.  It was really weird, but not uncommon.  Allen couldn't stop commenting on  how violent the shakes were ...

Hey polepole, Jedmo here. If you don't mind me asking, how much are
those trips to Alaska normally runs for? I would like to join you folks next
time around if the price is within my reach.

Thanks,
Jed

It all depends on what you want to do.  Howard is not running kayak fishing trips this year.   :smt012

The biggest cost is flight.  I like to rent forest service cabins to get out to nowhere.  Water Taxi is a big cost too.  Figure $500 +/-.  Forest service cabins are cheap (~$35/day).  Kayak rental is in the typical range, but finding someone that rents SOT can be difficult.

Chris at Liquid Adventure (http://liquid-adventures.com/) is running trips and can tailor them to whatever your fancy.

There is a new outfit in Juneau running day trips this year ... http://www.beyondak.com/kayakfishing.html

If there is enough interest, I'm happy to help coordinate a trip for next year for a small contingent, to use a cabin and enjoy some remote wilderness kayak fishing for a few days to a week.

Thanks polepole. I hope there will be some money left over after our vacation from
the Philippines. Perhaps we can get a group rate if enough people sign up and
commit to an Alaska kayak fishing trip.

You know things are bad in the local fishery when fisherman don't recognize a chinook!
