I am really bummed that my camera, the Pentax Optio W30) has stopped working. :smt013  When the camera is turned on the "auto picture" screen pops up and then the camera turns itself off. :smt009

I have sent an e-mail to the company.  I have owned the camera since Jan 2008, so I am pretty sure the warranty is expired.  But in the meantime, I want to hear from others that may have had to deal with Pentax.

Let me know your stories and recommendations.

hmmm I have the W10 and haven't had any issues. Maybe a battery issue?

Yeah, sounds like a battery issue to me too...But not sure.  Any corrosion on the contacts of the bty?  That happens to my VHF sometimes, cleaned it with an eraser and started charging again.  If you know someone with another bty, i'd give it a try!  They are cheap enough to replace on Ebay usually.

Yup... I would check to see if it's a battery issue first.

Did the camera get dunked underwater a little too long or with the latch unlocked?

I've seen a number of waterproof Optios die because their owners had them underwater too long.

I hate Pentax customer service, Theresa. Returned my camera FIVE times before they actually did anything...and after the fifth time, another problem popped up after the repair.

I have thought about it being a battery problem.  Maybe I can try to swap with someone at the Delta this weekend  :smurfin:

I haven't had any problems with my W30, and I've had it for about a year and a half. I have a float connected to it and actually found it floating next to me in Mexico last year. The outside is beat-up pretty good, but it still works great.

I think I took mine a bit too deep when we went to HI, but after 3 well worded letters from Anita, they sent a re-built one. The last letter was a doozy.

I'll have my W10. Assuming the battery is the same we can try it out.....mine reads

D-LI8
3.7V 710mAh

I have an extra W10 battery (D-LI8) and charger that anyone is welcome to.  Lens got a bit too scratched up so I tossed the camera.  I pulled the battery and charger in case someone needed an extra.

A quick Google search leads me to believe it should work for a W30.

Thanks everyone.  We have cleaned out the battery compartment...nothing there and recharged the battery, still not working.  So I will bring the camera on Sunday.
