Thanks to Chuck giving me the boost to get out on my kayak today I landed my first Ocean Kayak striper. (Many in the bay) This one was 44inches, 34 pounds.  Many years I waited for this and it finally happened in a big big way.  I had only one hour to fish because of a football tourney so it was one cast a couple paddles on the troll and 1 fish.  I was on the water at about 5:50 off by 6:35am.  It was epic.  I haven't posted pics in two years so if someone could give me a heads up I will post!

Great seeing everyone out there. In the short time I was there three other fish were caught.  I am sure others will post their stories.

Yep, good fishing at LM yesterday. I launched with the group and didn't have any lures so I spent the first hour paddling all over the bay trying to find the bait balls. As I was looking for bait I was hearing on the radio about everyone else hooking up  :smt011

I paddled back toward the other guys and bummed a couple lures from inseine, thanks Jim!  :smt006

I set up my troll along the surf line and once I got to the rocks on the north end I found myself sitting on top of a huge bait ball. Dropped the sabiki and quickly had my fill of sardines, so I switched out the lures for live bait.

It didn't take more than 2 minutes and my clicker was screaming. Put the reel in gear and it was game on. After a 10 minute fight I landed my personal best striper at 41.5" and 24 lbs after bleeding.  :smt007

After taking care of the big'un I reset with two baits out and after about 10 minutes, BOTH clickers started screaming. I jammed them both in gear, called out on the radio that I had a double going and commenced to working them both. I landed the first fish after about 3 or 4 minutes. All the while I kept looking over my shoulder at my other rod going crazy as the clicker screamed each time the fish took drag. The first fish I estimate was 35" or more, but he was quickly released. I then was able to deal with the other fish which was still on. This one was more of a fighter and it kept trying to drag me into the breakers. Thanks to Ariel Sea keeping an eye out on the surf for me I was able to focus a little more on the fish. Once I got this guy in he was identical to the other at 35" or more too. This guy also got a release.

At the end of the day this is easily my best day of striper fishing ever!  :smt003

the striper fishing is amazing right now.  I think what makes it so good is how consistent it is. Since 1998 there hasn't been consecutive runs where you can actually call someone, tell them where the stripers are and then have them be there the next day.  Good times!
