So much for the lake conditions we had last week. We're going up to the coast again 26-28. Hopefully this calms down by then. 35kt gusts can effect the handling abilities of some kayaks.

Today
NW wind 15 to 25 kt. A few gusts up to 35 kt in the afternoon. Wind waves 5 to 6 ft. NW swell 5 to 7 ft at 7 seconds.
Tonight
N wind 15 to 25 kt. Wind waves 4 to 6 ft. N swell 6 to 7 ft at 7 seconds. Patchy fog.
Fri
NW wind 15 to 25 kt. Wind waves 4 to 6 ft. N swell 6 to 7 ft at 7 seconds. Patchy fog.
Fri Night
N wind 20 to 30 kt with gusts to 35 kt. Wind waves 7 to 8 ft. N swell 7 ft. Patchy fog.
Sat
N wind 20 to 30 kt with gusts to 35 kt. Wind waves 6 to 8 ft. N swell 6 to 7 ft. Patchy fog.
Sun
N wind 15 to 25 kt. Gusts up to 35 kt. Wind waves 6 to 8 ft. NW swell 7 ft.
Mon
N wind 15 to 25 kt. Gusts up to 35 kt. Wind waves 4 to 6 ft. NW swell 8 ft. Patchy fog.

Ummm, ya.

When the windwaves are bigger than the swell it's usually best to opt for "Plan B".

I think its safe to say that 35 knots of wind affects a 30ft boat.

Will it be this windy at Paradise Saturday?

I should know how to look this up myself but, as of now, I can't.   :smt011

Go to coastsidefishingclub.com You dont have to be a paid member to see the home page and the on the left in the side bar you will see weather links. Go to scripps buoy data for current conditions then click on NOAA forcast for more info.

Actually Paradise should be OK in the morning, but I'm definitely not gonna drift too far from the launch!

I hear that and this seems like a great time for us to try our our new drift chutes as well.  :smt002

I have one from Hook1 and I love it. Surf to Summit.

One downside I noticed about using the drift chute is that (for me anyway) it gave me too much confidence to stay out longer than I should have once. Since I wasn't drifting too fast I kept fishing when the wind really picked up. By the time I called it the wind was howling directly from the west and I had a hell of a paddle trying to get back to the launch. One of those "if you stop paddling you go backwards" days.

Sorry, don't mean to threadjack.

Hey Dustin - how are you rigging your drift chute - front or back?

I usually just clip it to an eye pad near my seat, so it's pretty much mid yak.

I think anywhere you can clip it and it is out of the way, but still within reach is fine.
