Anyone else have problems with Humminbird fish finders?

I used mine for gimme shelter and 2 other events and it died!
Replaced the batteries twice over that time and the last time it just freezes at the start menu.

I called Humminbird and explained that I sell their product and endorse all Johnson outdoor products( prowler trident 13, prowler big game and extrasport gear). I also expalined that I have an event on the 21st teaching about kayak fishing and proper gear. The rep on the phone said send the unit in and I will have a reply in 9 business days after they receive the unit! This is after waiting 40 minutes on the phone! I didn't even get a deal on the fishfinder as an employee!

I went down the street to another Marine shop to try to get a power cable to try to troubleshoot the unit and was told " We don't carry Humminbird because of their horrible customer service".

I am trying to not go over the top with this and want some advise/ideas on how I should handle this. I was ready to sell my Ocean Kayaks and gear and not support or endorse the company in any way the other night, but think I may be going overboard and want some advise from you guys.

   Thanks

After using my 565 humminbird a total of 4 times it wouldnt turn on. I checked all the power leads the battrey and connections. I sent it back to humminbird priority mail and they recieved it in 2 days. Fixed and had it back to me in 10. I have had positive experienences with the customer service. When I bought the 565 it came with the regular transducer. After talking to customer service they gladly exchanged with no additional money for the scupper transducer. Shit happens with electronics. Everything is ok now with my unit( FF that is). :smt044

Wish I had the answer you're looking for but I don't.  My only advice is to not go overboard and sell your gear to boycott.  You'll end up spending more in the long run, most likely regretting your decision.

Where are you teaching?

Talked to the sales rep at humminbird and he is trying to get me another unit for the weekend. I had to do the follow up calls so far and am still waiting for an actual answer as to what they can do for me.

I was promised a call by the end of the day which never happened :smt010

I think the rep probably got tied up and just couldn't call me back.

Tomarrow I will be ordering my eagle if I don't get a call in the morning.

That really sucks because you know that scupper mounted transducer very nice and clean.

Well,
after multiple e-mails and phone calls I have humminbird sending out a replacement unit for the weekend,

We will see if this one holds up.

They did send it 2 day air so I have it for the weekend :smt044

I alternate between 3 kayaks and don't want a permanent mount. I am a fan of the suction cup transducer because I never know what boat I will be using for an event.
